About Me

My photo
lucky girl back from 8 1/2 years living in asia with my husband and three children, happily delighting in the visual treats offered me. I shoot film with a Nikon F4 (on longterm loan) and reliably for many years with an old Nikon N65 held together with rubber bands. Freshman year of college I finally got contact lenses. I was awed by how clear the stars looked during an astronomy lab. I have always been visual, but the ability to bring things into focus is such a delight. And when I capture that clarity on film I am so satisfied. It might be a piece or segment of something, the juxtaposition of textures or colors, or the atmosphere in a place that attracts me... but light is my obsession. I find film lends itself to revealing a real, complex, sometimes slightly flawed nature of things. I appreciate the depth and tangibility of film. I am back from Hong Kong where I was constantly exposed to an abundance of visual gifts; now delighting anew in the offerings of New England, New York or wherever I find myself noticing. ... see more on my flickr account: http://www.flickr.com/photos/film-fineartphotography/ and instagram: @threads.ofdistraction and @lbl_rkl

happy halloween!

halloween in hong kong ... one of the most enjoyed holidays here (who doesn't like to dress up?!)   lan kwai fong is transformed into a spooky outdoor fun house as ghouls and gory-parts are suspended above it all.

shelley street mosque

last spring i wandered up the escalator and stumbled upon this beautiful mosque under renovation (peely paint, scaffolding, worker's clothes hanging to dry and all).  the naturalness of the whole scene captivated me.  i didn't even realise it was a "working" mosque at first - figuring it was the painters inside doing their job -- not until my eyes got used to the light did i realise these were worshippers, shoes removed and lined up outside, at prayer.  i recently found myself nearby again - but was disappointed at the finished smooth green of the building - happy that i'd had my camera with me that first day.

blocks (and art cafe)

casually left on tables in the garden at the little art cafe, i was immediately taken by these pigmenty colored whimsies - they really did make me smile!  imagine all the different possibilities and transformations that have occurred with these childhood favorites: stacked by wiggly toddlers, fondled by thoughtful dreamers, purposefully placed by wishful architects, admired by appreciative residents, ignored by tired teens, ...
