last spring i wandered up the escalator and stumbled upon this beautiful mosque under renovation (peely paint, scaffolding, worker's clothes hanging to dry and all). the naturalness of the whole scene captivated me. i didn't even realise it was a "working" mosque at first - figuring it was the painters inside doing their job -- not until my eyes got used to the light did i realise these were worshippers, shoes removed and lined up outside, at prayer. i recently found myself nearby again - but was disappointed at the finished smooth green of the building - happy that i'd had my camera with me that first day.
